EPISODE 423: ALIEN ROMULUS

The time has come. The three of us are all big fans of the Alien franchise and director/writer Fede Alvarez has arrived with his buddy and co-writer Rodo Sayagues to give their take.

As the first film in the long running Alien series to be produced by 20th Century Studios following it’s acquisition by Disney, Alien: Romulus successfully resuscitated the franchise, grossing over $350 million worldwide. But at what cost?

Will the film’s gorgeous production design, modern horror tropes, and nostalgic nods to the greatest hits of the franchise be enough? Or is what some identify as an over-reliance on fan service, imitation, incoherent plotting, and contrivances, ultimately a deal breaker? What did we think? You’re about to find out.

EPISODE 414: INFESTED

How ya been? We’re back with a review of another 2024 horror entry, INFESTED. Aka ‘Vermines’ in it’s native France. 

People are so repelled by spiders they’ve got their own sub-genre: 1990’s Arachnophobia (see episode 219 of WGT for our review), 2002’s Eight Legged Freaks, 1977’s Kingdom of the Spiders (starring motherfucking William Shatner), 1958’s Earth vs. the Spider (an MST3K classic), 2024’s Madame Webb (truly horrifying), and many more. Incidentally, it’s the debut feature of director Sebastien Vanicek, reportedly tapped to helm the next film in the Evil Dead franchise.
