Ep357: The Black Phone – WGT

Boy, howdy! I’ll tell you what. We were so overwhelmed by the sheer brilliance of Dashcam last week, we just had to take a week off to cleanse our pallets. Nothing can cleanse the taste of a Blumhouse movie like… another god damn Blumhouse movie?! Who picks this shit?!

Well, dang. I guess this week we’re discussing 2022’s  The Black Phone. It’s done by the guy that did Sinister, so that’s something, right? Is it a serial killer? Is it supernatural? Is it tight or decidedly not tight? Tune in and find out.

Ep356: Dashcam – WGT

You know how everyone absolutely adores right wing politics? Even more than that, you know how we all love listening to people spew their political opinions? Better yet, how about when it’s laced with profanities and rhythmless freestyle rap?

Well hold on to your virtues, snowflakes! This week’s film follows a very outspoken, covid denying, right “leaning” “protagonist”, as they travel to England to enlighten them on world issues. There’s also a good amount of shaky cam, yelling, and some corn-filled diarrhea thrown in for good measure. Yeah, it’s one of THOSE movies!

This week we’re discussing 2022’s Dashcam! So dust off your favorite M.A.G.A. hat and set it on fire, while you’re wearing it.

Eo355: Crimes of the Future – WGT

Well, time has come yet again for us to piss off a large portion of the horror community. There is no middle ground when it comes to David Cronenberg, either you love the guy, or you hate him. We’re here today to draw a line in the sand!

Cronenberg is back in what is being touted as “his return to sci-fi horror” with 2022’s Crimes of the Future. In a world where pain no longer exists and the world is devoid of feeling, surgery is the new sex. How can it be bad, right? Surgery, plus sex, plus the godfather of body-horror equals awesome movie. Right? RIGHT?!

Ep354: The Innocents – WGT

Oh, Johnny wishes he was famous. Spends his time alone in the basement. With Lennon and Cobain and guitar and a stereo. While he wishes he could escape this, but it all seems so contagious. Not to be yourself and faceless in a song that has no soul.

I remember feeling low, I remember losing hope and I remember all the feelings and the day they stopped. We are we are all innocent, we are all innocent, we are we are.

Not our words, but the words of Our Lady Peace. I had little motivation to write a clever intro and this week we cover 2022’s The Innocents. So there ya go.

Ep353: Men – WGT

Here we are with another A24 movie. I’m sure you know how this episode is going to go. Or do you? After all, it is an Alex Garland movie. Not only that, Matt has gone on record as saying the trailer looks “hella dope”.

Yessir, this week we’re talking about men on film. No, not the In Living Color sketch, but the 2022 film simply titled Men. But like, not all men, right dood? Shut up, idiot. Just listen to the god damned episode already.

Ep352: The Sadness – WGT

Howdy there, little nerds! One of the upsides to having lived through (during?) a global pandemic, is you can now appreciate films dealing with global pandemics. Fun how that works, huh?

Any who… there’s been a Chinese film making the rounds lately that centers around the events of a global pandemic. However, instead of giving people a cough, it gives people the desire to fuck and brutally murder everything in sight. That’s pretty dope. The movie is also incredibly gory, which is also dope. Therefore, it would stand to reason that a film about sex, violence and gore would be hella, HELLA dope, right?

Guess we’ll find out! Tune in this week as we get all up in the guts of 2021’s The Sadness.

Ep351: Army of Darkness – WGT

Alright, listen up, you primative screw-heads! We’ve heard you! You want us to cover something fun. You want us to talk about something you’ve heard of. And you want us to review a movie you can actually find. Jesus, you’re demanding. Well, fret not, nerds for we’re nothing if not men of the people.

This week we’re going all the way back to 1992, before a lot of you were even born realistically. That’s right! This week we’re fighting deadites in the medieval age with Army of Darkness! Knowing this movie came out 30 years ago makes me feel old as fuck. However, with the release of Evil Dead Rise and Evil Dead: The Game on the horizon, we figured it was high time we discuss a film with alloys, and compositions, and things with molecular structures.

And that’s NOT just what we call “pillow talk”, baby.

Ep350: Threads – WGT

It’s no secret the world is going to shit. Some people like to stay informed, some people like to bury their heads in the sand and ignore our impending doom. In reality, humanity has been staring down the barrel of our own destruction for centuries.

In 1984 the cold war and the threat of nuclear winter was as prevalent as it is today. For this reason the BBC released a little film called Threads. Often heralded as one of the most disturbing films of all time, Threads is a docudrama that takes an in depth look at what could happen to a civilization in the aftermath of a nuclear attack. Nothing and no one is safe from the fallout.

Take a listen, watch the film. This may be our reality sooner, rather than later.

Ep349: Pieces of Talent – WGT

Years ago, my good friend Danny showed me a movie. I loved that movie. I spent years trying to remember what the movie was called. I asked Danny, but he couldn’t figure out what movie I was talking about. For the life of me, I could not remember what the movie was called. Until last month!

The movie is 2014’s Pieces of Talent  and this week we watched the shit out of it! Buckle up nerds, this shit is about to get real!

Ep348: Studio 666 – WGT

Lol Foo Fighters made a horror movie! For real. That’s really all this episode description needs. The Foo Fighters made a horror movie called Studio 666 and it revolves around the wacky shenanigans the band experiences while recording their tenth album.

Not only that, this film was the last thing Taylor Hawkins did before he died. Well, this and drugs. Is it good? How many Foo songs are crammed into the movie? How big is Dave Grohls ego? Find out the answer to all of these questions and more!
