True Detective Finale Crashes HBO Go

True_Detective_2014_IntertitleSo unless (like me) you’ve been living under a rock since the new year, you know that HBO’s True Detective is the biggest show of the season, trying to fill the void left by Breaking Bad. The show has created such a buzz, the past Sunday the finale episode crashed the HBO Go site!

Matthew McConaughey‘s crime drama series proved to be such a popular hit for HBO that the pay network’s streaming service crashed during last night’s season finale, sending fans into a tizzy.

“Due to overwhelmingly popular demand for ‪#TrueDetective, we’ve been made aware of an issue affecting some users. Please try again soon,” read a tweet sent out Sunday night by HBO GO, the network’s streaming site.

HBO fixed the problem today, tweeting, “The issues affecting HBO GO last night have been resolved. Thank you for being patient.”

The show’s popularity has grown since it’s inaugural telecast drew 2.3 million viewers. Starring recent Oscar winner McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as two homicide detectives tracking a serial killer, the eight-episode series wrapped its first season Sunday night.

Season 2 is already in the works. But don’t expect to see McConaughey back as philosophizing detective Rust Cohle or his co-star Harrelson. The 44-year-old actor told reporters backstage at the Oscars that they never planned on returning.

“We won’t be back for season two,” he said last week. “Season one was finite.”

A second season of “True Detective” is expected to feature a new cast and story line, similar to FX’s “American Horror Story.”

Until then, McConaughey may just add an Emmy to his awards’ shelf this year, should he and the show be nominated either in the drama or mini series categories.
