EPISODE 416: THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS

This week WGT revisits 1991’s THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS. For our much appreciated Patreon subscribers, its a double dose of Wes Craven as they also get an exclusive episode of the bonkers 1989 slasher, SHOCKER. You can become a WGT Patreon member at www.patreon.com/whogoestherepodcast, or click the hyperlink further down the page.

The People Under the Stairs was previously discussed in the show’s first year by Jorge and former cohosts/co-founders Matt and Chris wayyyyyy back in 2014. This marks the first time WGT has revisited the same film in it’s 10 year history. This is also Jacob’s first watch of the film, which is insane.

“Every generation more insane than the one before it. They got their fingers into real estate, started making a lot of money taking over people’s homes. The more money they got, the greedier they got. The greedier they got, the crazier they got. All sorts of rumors about what’s going on in that place. Never proved it because the police never took it serious. But believe me, when I was a kid, none of us ever walked past that house.” It’s the Who Goes There Podcast Episode 416!!!

EPISODE 386: STARSHIP TROOPERS

Welcome back. How ya been? This episode we’re talking Paul Verhoeven’s gory military satire, STARSHIP TROOPERS. While universally praised for its staggering special visual effects and creature design courtesy of Phill Tippet, upon initial release the film was considered a commercial and critical failure. The satirical elements were mostly misunderstood and even interpreted to mean the exact opposite of what was intended. Verhoeven’s hyper-violence and grisly combat scenes were perhaps most appreciated by gorehounds and teenagers. In the last 25 years Starship Troopers has undergone a critical reappraisal.

So, how’s the film aged since it’s original 1997 release? Listen and find out. As of this writing the film is also available to stream on Netflix. Second-half of the show begins right around the 46-minute mark and the review shortly after.

“That’s great. That’s just fucking great, man! Now what the fuck are we supposed to do? We’re in some real pretty shit now man! Game over man, game’s fucking over! What the fuck are we gonna do now? What are we gonna do?” It’s the Who Goes There Podcast episode 386!
