Happy holidays from the belly of the beast! This episode we review one of three Stephen King (AKA Richard Bachman) film adaptations this year, THE LONG WALK.

It’s set in a post-cataclysmic dystopian future where people volunteer for a grueling and dehumanizing endurance test with the hope of being compensated financially by the state which uses the ordeal to prop up national pride. What a nightmare, how does he come up with this stuff?

“We have the means to return to our former glory. You boys are the answer. The Long Walk is the answer. When this is broadcast for all the states, your inspiration will continue to elevate our gross national product. This episode we discuss WEAPONS, writer/director Zach Cregger’s much anticipated follow up to his 2022 breakout, Barbarian.  It involves a small town being ripped apart by the baffling disappearance of 17 children following a mysterious school tragedy, and…to say more would be a disservice. The film is currently available to stream on HBOMAX (or whatever we’re calling it this week).

If the name and trailer weren’t a hint, the movie traffics in themes of codependency, the blurring of self and identity, and commitment anxiety.

Some of you may have seen it already, because you’re dorks like us. But what did we in our collective wisdom think? You must listen and find out.
