With just about a week until the upcoming Cannes market, Wild Bunch has revealed they will be producing a remake of William Lustig’s 1988 cult classic Maniac Cop.

ScreenDaily is reporting; the production is spearheaded by Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn, who is producing alongside Wild Bunch, and Lustig, director of the original.

The script is written by Ed Brubaker, (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), while the currently unnamed director will be announced at Cannes. This leads us to believe that while involved with the film, Lustig will not be directing.
