EPISODE 408: CUBE

Welcome back haomies! One more trip to the 90’s before we get it going with some 2024 horror releases. This episode we get into the chamber piece horrors of 1997’s CUBE. The film is fairly influential and has developed a niche cult following over time. Jorge and Jacob also discuss Cube 2, which is fucking insane. Both are currently available on Prime for those wanting a re-watch or watching for the first time.

“It’s all the same machine, right? The Pentagon, multinational corporations, the police. If you do one little job, you build a widget in Saskatoon, and the next thing you know, it’s two miles under the desert, the essential component of a death machine. I was right! All along, my whole life, I knew it! I told you! Nobody’s ever going to call me paranoid again! We’ve gotta get out of here and blow the lid off this thing!” It’s the Who Goes There Podcast Episode 408!

EPISODE 407: DISTURBING BEHAVIOR

Greetings! We’ve got a couple more visits to the late 90’s before getting into some current 2024 horror releases.

DISTURBING BEHAVIOR is the raw essence of 1998 distilled into pure, shameless, trash. Katie Holmes, horny/homicidal teens, an incoherent mind control premise, stock thematic elements about the dangers of conformity, and James Marsden looking like a full grown man in his early 30’s portraying a high school student. Join us as we discuss this important milestone in cinematic history.

EPISODE 397: SPECIES

The year is 1995. Kurt Cobain blew his head off last year, or someone blew his head off, at the very least. Singles from Smashing Pumpkins’ Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, The Offsprings’ Smash, and Radiohead’s The Bends are lighting up the radio. And Wonderwall, don’t forget Wonderwall. Secretly, and shamefully, you regularly check VH1 to see if the video for Collective Soul’s song, “December” is on. No one must ever know about this 🎶

Then, here comes Natasha Henstridge as a predatory alien searching for the perfect mate to begin populating her species on Earth🤰

Forest Whitaker plays a man with clairvoyant abilities, which in this film apparently means he is gifted with the ability to point out obvious, readily observable things. Michael Madsen wears sunglasses the whole time and doesn’t know how to hold a gun. Then, there’s Oscar-winner, Sir Ben fucking Kingsley approaching the material like it’s Shakespeare.

Join us as we revisit SPECIES, a very special relic of 1995 🧬

“You created a monster with some kind of formula you got from outer space. The damn thing got away, and now you want us to hunt it down and kill it. She would make one excellent biological weapon. If someone out there thought we were some kind of galactic weed that was going to spread through the universe…she’s the cure and where the disease.” It’s the Who Goes There Podcast Episode 397!

EPISODE 390: THE DEVIL’S ADVOCATE

This episode we return to 1997 when Al Pacino (“greeeeeeeat ass!!!”) played himself playing the devil and Keanu Reeves terrified us with his attempt at a Southern Accent. It’s The Who Goes There Podcast, Episode 390: The Devil’s Advocate. Review starts right around the 30-minute mark, after Jorge and Rhett briefly discuss some Billy Joel deep cuts.

“Who are you carrying all those bricks for anyway? God? Is that it? God? Why I’ll tell you…let me give you a little inside information about God. God likes to watch. He’s a prankster. Think about it. He gives man… instincts. He gives you this extraordinary gift, and then what does he do? I swear, for his own amusement…his own private, cosmic, gag reel; he sets the rules in opposition. It’s the goof of all time. Look, but don’t touch. Taste, but don’t swallow. And while you’re jumping from one foot to the next, what is he doing? He’s laughing his sick, fucking ass off! He’s a tightass! He’s a sadist! He’s an absentee landlord! Worship that?! Never!”
