EPISODE 404: VIRUS

Picture this if you will, it’s January 1999. Britney Spears’ debut album is all over the place, bands like Sugar Ray and Limp Bizkit saturate alternative radio, Michael Bay’s Armageddon was the biggest movie last Summer, and Bill Clinton “did not have sexual relations with that woman.” SIKE! Just as we begin our spiral into the imminent Y2K apocalypse, Universal Pictures decides to dump an R-Rated $75 million scifi-horror adaptation of a dope Dark Horse comic book in theaters.

This episode, King Hans, the benevolent, bearded lord of our Patreon has decreed we review 1999’s VIRUS, starring the likes of Jamie Lee Curtis, Billy Baldwin, and motherfucking Donald Sutherland with a strong contender for the most absurd Irish accent in cinema history. You’re back! That warms our hearts. There’s a lot of crazy shit going on, as usual. Rich people getting their boats flipped by Killer Whales, rich people getting yeeted into soup after imploding in a janky-ass submarine equipped with a cheap gaming controller as a navigation device while trying to visit the Titanic, a mercenary insurrection in Russia. Yes, it’s a wild time to be alive. We suppose this has always been the case though. 

This episode we dive into DEADSTREAM, a found footage horror/comedy revolving around a recently disgraced Youtuber who’s willing to do anything to get his followers back. For those who haven’t seen it the movie is currently available to stream on Shudder.

Ep262: Mutant Blast w/ WWE Superstar Baron Corbin

With all that is going on in not only the world, but our own backyard, it seems inappropriate to be celebrating anything. Well, we reached a pretty important milestone here at the Who Goes There Podcast. Today is 7 years to the day since we posted our very first episode. So in honor of such a big event we brought back our biggest (literally) guest to date. That’s right! The haomie Baron Corbin is back to give us his “kingly” take on all things horror!

Last time Tom (Baron) was on the show, we discussed the Stranger Things-esque Summer of ’84. While King Corbin seemed pleased with this offering, we wanted to REALLY ramp up the insanity this time around and show him what WGT is all about. This week we’re discussing the 2019/2020, Portuguese Troma film Mutant Blast (Review starts at 37:07).

Ladies and germs, Christmas has come early! The wonderful people of France teamed up with the folks over at Shudder to bring us an amazing gift that we didn’t know we wanted! Have you ever been watching Home Alone and thought to yourself, “yeah, it’s good, but it could definitely be more French, and where are all the mullets”?

Buckle. The. Fuck. Up. This week we’re fuckin blessed to be covering 1982’s Deadly Games (a.k.a. Game Over, Hide and Freak, 3615 Code Pere Noel, Dial Code Santa Claus etc). (Review at 21:27) Guys, for real, this movie is fuckin bonkers! Just look at the photo below. I’ve seen the movie and even I have no idea what is going on right there. It’s so god damn zany that for many years, the entirety of the United States was like, “that’s a nah from me, dawg” and the movie wasn’t available here until 2018! I know I don’t say this much, but seriously, go watch this movie before listening to the show!

There’s just something so special about getting together with a bunch of like-minded dorks, in the middle of nowhere to watch hours and hours of horror films!
